Back to back wins for Clarets

The Clarets returned to league action this afternoon looking to build on the 2-0 Essex Senior Cup win over East Thurrock United in the week. Today’s opponents were struggling Chippenham Town, the only team below the Clarets in the form table over the last six matches.

City had a goal disallowed early on, before winning a penalty just before half time as Shaun Batt was brought down by McDonald. The defender was sent off for the challenge and Chris Dickson stepped up to take the spot kick.

The City forward, who has struggled in front of goal recently put all that behind him as he fired home on 43 minutes to make it 1-0 heading into half time.

Michael Spillane came close to doubling the home side’s lead shortly after the break, but his effort was superbly stopped by Thompson in the Chippenham goal.

On 78 minutes Rod Stringer’s side doubled their lead when Elliot Omozusi headed home from a Taylor Miles corner to make it 2-0. It was the defender’s first Clarets goal.

City were able to see out the rest of the game and secure a first league win since before Christmas.
