Clarets exit FA Cup at Gateshead

A 500 mile round trip for the Clarets yielded little return for Rod Stringer’s side, who went out of the FA Cup at Gateshead this afternoon following a 2-0 defeat.

The Heed, who currently sit 17th in the National League, took the lead on the half hour mark when Burrow headed in following a York cross to make it 1-0.

Just four minutes later and the hosts had doubled their lead in similar circumstances. Again a free kick was awarded, before the ball eventually found it’s way into the box where, once again, a Gateshead player was quickest to react and make it 2-0.

City, who have recently come from 2-0 at half time to win on two occasions, made a change at the break with Mike West replacing Jim Stevenson. Shaun Batt also made his way onto the pitch before the hour mark as he replaced Chris Dickson.

Michael Spillane went close on 60 minutes but the Clarets couldn’t find a way back into the tie and exit the Cup at the First Round stage.
