Clarets fall from top of table with defeat

Two goals from former City player Max Cornhill saw Chelmsford fall to their second defeat of the season, slipping off the top of the table at the expense of their visitors in the process.

The Clarets took the lead early on, as they have done in both previous games, when Danny Green fired in a free kick after Chris Dickson was fouled.

However, as with the previous two games, Rod Stringer’s men were pegged back, albeit a little earlier than previously, with Max Cornhill making it 1-1 on 25 minutes.

The former Clarets favourite doubled his tally 9 minutes later to give East Thurrock a lead that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.

The Clarets have now not won for four matches and could find themselves as low as 6th place once everyone else plays their games in hand.

This Saturday may well provide a much needed distraction for City, who will host Ramsgate in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
