Clarets suffer third league defeat of season

Chelmsford City suffered defeat at Chippenham today, despite fighting back from 2-0 down to briefly draw level.

The Clarets were two goals down at the break, after first half goals from Richards and Pratt gave the home side a deserved lead.

City were awarded a penalty midway through the second period, when Chris Dickson was brought down, and although his penalty was saved, Michael Spillane tucked home the rebound to bring the Clarets back into the game.

With time running out, City looked to have rescued a point on 88 minutes when Dickson pulled off a wonderful finish, but the joy was short lived as Chippenham regained the lead just a minute later, leaving Rod Stringer’s side with too much to do in the time remaining.

The Clarets now take a brief break from league action, as they visit Hornchurch on Tuesday in the Essex Senior Cup, but the trip to Gateshead next Saturday in the FA Cup 1st Round.
