Clarets win on the road in 8 goal thriller

Rod Stringer’s Chelmsford City side put 5 past Hemel Hempstead on Bank Holiday Monday to cap off a positive weekend after a perhaps indifferent start to the season.

Tom Wraight’s early goal, his second of the season, put the Clarets ahead, but the hosts levelled shortly after with the sides going in 1-1 at the break.

The second half saw both teams open up and a flurry of goals duly followed.

Hemel were the first to strike on 53 minutes Clifford fired home to make it 2-1, but Anthony Church soon equalised to level it up again at 2-2.

Minutes later and Rob Swaine found the net to give City the lead again, only for Hemel to once again cancel it out when Jordan Parkes curled a free kick beyond the reach of Nathan McDonald.

On 84 minutes, Rhys Murphy coolly slotted home to make it 4-3, before Chris Whelpdale notched his first Chelmsford goal in the final minutes to send the travelling fans wild.
