Last gasp spot kick saves Clarets

Rhys Murphy’s stoppage time penalty secured City a hard-fought draw on the road at Hampton & Richmond this afternoon.

Despite being down to 10 men when Bray saw red early on in the game, last season’s play-off opposition took the lead before the break when former Claret Chris Dickson lofted the ball over new signing Nathan McDonald in the Chelmsford net.

City fought back and eventually got the break they needed when Dickson turned from hero to villain, conceding a penalty in the dying minutes of the game.

With Scott Fenwick off the pitch, Rhys Murphy stepped up and fired home to rescue a point for Rod Stringer’s side, who will be happy with a point following a disappointing display on the road.

The Clarets have still yet to get going this campaign, with the 6-0 win at Hungerford being an exception, and sit towards the middle of the league table. Meanwhile Concord Rangers and Billericay both continued their bright starts, knocking in the goals to remain tied at the top.

Next up for City is the visit of Bath next Saturday.
