After the 7-0 win over Ramsgate in the FA Cup, I spoke to City defender Mickey Spillane.
Ok Mickey, a break from the league action today with the FA cup and it was a good result in the end.
Yeah it was a good result, that’s what we came here today to get goals and get our confidence up and keep a clean sheet and we done that.
Today, you’ve come back from injury and you had a positive impact getting the first goal.
Yeah it weren’t bad. Hainsey’s done well to leave it, he could’ve headed it. But I’ve caught it alright and it’s gone in. It was nice to get on, I wanted to go on the bench today and get 10 minutes or so but I’ve come on a bit earlier and done alright.
Obviously, lately we have faltered in the league going 4 games without a win. Do you think today’s result will give us the confidence boost that we perhaps need?
Yeah, it was only a matter of time until we started scoring a fair few goals. We drew 3 in the league so we’re not at panic stations yet. We’ve just got to keep going, we’ve got a good team with good players so it will come.
I mean, the problem was not getting enough goals but we didn’t seem to have a problem with that today.
No, it was always going to happen once we started scoring a couple they were going to start flooding in. Sometimes when you miss a couple, things seem to go against you but hopefully now this will kick us on.
Next week, we travel to Dorset to face Poole Town. They are struggling this year but have a similar squad to last year where they finished 5th.
Yeah last year I wasn’t here for the first game, but in the second game you could see they were a good side. They done well, had some good players and they finished quite well so it will be a tough game.
Even though they are struggling, you can’t go there expecting to win and we still have to show them respect don’t we?
I think that as you see in this league, you don’t ever get an easy game. No matter what players they’ve got or the level they’ve played at. Every game is tough and you have to show respect, it’s not as easy and just going out and winning the game as you’ve seen today. It took us 35, 40 minutes to break them down. So we have to go there (Poole) and show them respect like they will show us and the best team will win.
