Starting his career in the youth setup at Tottenham Hotspur, Porter would go on to the academies of Southend, Gillingham and Brighton & Hove Albion before making his senior debut with Cambridge United in 2005.

Unable to make an impact, he joined Bishop’s Stortford in 2006 where he enjoyed a successful season scoring 8 times in 42 games from midfield.

His form attracted the interest of Barnet, with whom he joined for 2 seasons before moving onto Rushden & Diamonds in 2009. When The Diamonds were wound up in 2011, Porter made his way into the Football League, joining AFC Wimbledon, but midway through the season was sent out on loan to Newport County. At the end of the season his contract with the Dons expired and he joined Newport on a permanent basis for the following 3 campaigns, helping the team return the Football League via the playoffs in 2013.

Porter then joined Conference National side Bromley in the summer of 2015, but had his contract terminated in October of the following year, before joining the Clarets shortly afterwards.

On February 9th, after a struggling with injury problems all season, it was announced that Porter would join Maldon & Tiptree on a 1 month loan deal to regain match fitness.

Porter re-signed for the 2018-19 in a new capacity as a player/coach.
